GM isn’t the only automaker making this shift; across the board, car companies are starting to invest more heavily in electric vehicle technology. This is in response to both changing customer preferences and stricter emissions regulations being enacted in an effort to combat climate change.
So far, Tesla has been the leader in the electric vehicle space, but with GM’s latest announcement, that may start to change. Tesla has faced criticism in recent years over production delays and quality control issues, so there’s definitely an opportunity for GM to capitalize on that and gain market share. Additionally, GM is already a well-established name in the automotive industry, so it will likely have an easier time getting customers to switch to its electric vehicles than a newcomer would.
